General Post-Operative Instructions

For most periodontal treatments:

  • Rest the day of your procedure
  • Avoid straws, spitting, and vigorous rinsing
  • Begin gentle saltwater rinses the next day
  • Stick to soft foods for 24 hours
  • Use only fluoride toothpaste (no whitening/tartar control)

Tooth Extraction

If you’ve had a tooth removed:

  • Bite down on gauze with firm pressure for 20 minutes
  • Apply ice in 20-minute intervals to reduce swelling
  • Avoid spicy, crunchy, or acidic foods for at least a week
  • Minor oozing is normal—use a damp tea bag if bleeding persists

Sinus Augmentation

For patients who received a sinus lift:

  • Expect minor nasal discharge or bleeding for the first day
  • No forceful nose blowing or straws
  • Use Afrin nasal spray and other prescribed medications as directed
  • Avoid hard, spicy, or seedy foods for 2 weeks

RPC, WaterLase, Frenectomy, or Biopsy

For minimally invasive procedures:

  • Rest after treatment
  • Saltwater rinses for 2–3 days
